Discover the world of art through Philbrook’s new program for the homeschooling community! In this engaging approach to arts education, students will enjoy a rich museum experience and create their own works of art. Each age-appropriate class will include an exploration of art in the galleries and an art lesson in the studios.

February 1 (5-8 year olds): Native American Sand Art
Explore shapes, colors and symbols in our Native American galleries, and then create a beautiful work of art with colored sand.

February 15 (9-12 year olds): Native American Expressions in Sand
Discover patterns, textures and designs in our Native American collection, and then create a colorful sand painting using special permanent adhesive boards.

March 7 (5-8 year olds): Magic Clay Pots
Learn how to create a coil pot in the style of Maria Martinez using air drying clays.

March 21 (9-12 year olds): Polychrome Pots
Study the polychrome pots by Native American artist Maria Martinez and her family to inspire a pot of your own made with air drying clay in beautiful earth tone colors.

January 7: Gold & Glitzy Art
Guest Artist – Deborah Kingsbury
Explore the beautiful paintings from the Speed Art Museum then create a European-style masterpiece when you combine gold and glitz on a colorful collage.

Deborah Kingsbury received a BA in Visual Art from SOSU, Weatherford with graduate hours in Art at CSU, Edmond. She is currently an elementary art teacher at Tulsa Public Schools.

January 21: Oil vs. Water
Guest Artist – Libby Williams
Discover modern artwork and learn how to mix science with art when you make a cool liquid painting using oil and water that stays interactive to the touch.

Libby Williams graduated in 2008 with a BFA in Painting from the University of Tulsa. She also studied painting and drawing in 2009 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.

February 4: Wild and Wooly Weavings
Guest Artist – Barrie Lamberton
Check out the colorful patterns of Native American blankets for inspiration in creating a multi-textured weaving using all kinds of fun materials.

Barrie Lamberton has a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. She has taught at a local Montessori school with a focus on the visual arts and art history.

February 18: Black and White (and Color!)
Guest Artist – Andrea Wamble
Visit the beautiful black-on-black pottery of Maria Martinez in the exhibition, then design and decorate a 2-D black and white clay pot that will be placed on a water-colored background.

Andrea Wamble comes to Philbrook from Dallas where she was the Creative Director of the accredited art school Art-A-Rama.

March 3: Easy Etchings
Guest Artist – Deborah Kingsbury
Bring imagination to life by creating multiple prints of original artwork using a unique printmaking process. Check out the prints from The Sinuous Line in the Works on Paper gallery for inspiration.

March 17: Only the Shadow Knows! (Free for Members!)
Guest Artist – Mary Jane Porter
Explore contrast through shadows and light in the Black on Black and White exhibition to create an exciting landscape on canvas with paint and photo images.

Mary Jane Porter is a skilled painter, whose work is exhibited nationwide. She teaches at Tulsa Community College and holds a M.A. from the University of Tulsa.
