Peggy Weil: 88 Cores

Philbrook Downtown
Feb 01, 2019 - May 19, 2019

In Peggy Weil’s video 88 CORES (From -1 Meter to -3051 Meters), the viewer experiences a descent into the Arctic ice sheet and back through time to when the layers of snow first fell, a time span of 110,000 years. The gasses and debris trapped in the ice tell scientists about the atmospheric conditions in Earth’s past. Large-scale video projection and music combine in an immersive experience through which the viewer can experience the monumentality of Arctic ice and consider the critical processes of climate change.

Peggy Weil’s work has been exhibited internationally at The Climate Museum in New York City, MMOMA in Moscow, and LABoral in Spain. 88 Cores was featured at the United Nations for the Secretary General’s address on Climate Action in 2018. She is currently a lecturer at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
