group tours for k-12 students
Guided student tours at Philbrook make use of the Museum’s permanent collection of art, special exhibitions, and 25 acres of gardens. Experiences are led by our trained volunteer corps of museum guides, known as docents.
Gallery experiences for students of all ages are inquiry-based, meaning that students’ observations and questions are the building blocks of any tour. This approach allows students to practice close looking, form personal connections, and be more actively engaged with art they see. Docents share information about works of art in response to students’ questions and observations, rather than following a predetermined script.
We believe…
Philbrook is a place for students to actively discuss, question, learn, imagine, and generally enjoy themselves during their gallery visit.
Art can help students learn how to think, not what to think. No single genre, artist, or culture is above others. Art is not about being right or wrong. We use dialogue to seek understanding rather than agreement. Through gallery experiences, you can learn more about yourself and others.
Art is a great way to learn about people, ideas, and stories you may not have known about before.
tour offerings
Due to the amount of interest we receive each year for guided tours, we are unable to accommodate requests for customized experiences. In these cases, we encourage groups to self-guide.
highlights & special exhibition:
During the run of our special exhibitions, groups can request a tour add-on that will include up to 20 minutes in our special exhibition gallery.
